Cheerleading

Squad Assignment

Cheerleaders are assigned to squads based on their age. We have four different divisions. The flag level starts out with the 5 & 6 year olds girls, Bantam level is for 7 & 8 year olds, Junior level is for 9 & 10 year olds, and our Senior division is for girls ages 11 & 12.

Division Ages
Flag 5 – 6
Bantam 7 – 8
Junior 9 – 10
Senior 11, 12 & 13

Practices

Our practices start in the beginning of August, and continue through the month of October. The squads are committed to practicing 2 to 4 evenings a week, but that may be modified by the Head Coach, at their discretion. In the summertime, practices are held at Tudek Park in State College. However, as the season progresses and the day light hours grow shorter, the squads typically practice at an indoor location.

Program Overview – Sideline and Indoor

The Centre Bulldogs offer both football side-line cheer and indoor competition cheerleading.

All of our cheer squads do side-line cheer for their respective level of football team (flag cheer for flag football…etc.). The football teams have 8 games per season during the months of September and October. We do not schedule games on the same day as a PSU home football game. Because of that, a lot of our football games are held on Sundays. Our home football field is at Autumn Meadow Park in Stormstown (Halfmoon Township/Port Matilda area).

All of our cheerleading squads also participate in an indoor cheerleading competition held in mid-to-late October for the members of our league (Central Mountain, Bellefonte, Bald Eagle Area, Dubois, and Centre Bulldogs).

Uniforms

All cheerleaders will be out-fitted with a Bulldogs cheer uniform (Shell, Skirt, Bloomers, Hairbows, and Socks). Most uniform items are collected at the end of the season. Parents are asked to purchase body suits, sneakers, and a warm up suit for their child.

Coaching/Volunteer Opportunities

We always welcome parents to volunteer as coaches, assistant coaches, and Team Mom’s. We do require an Act 34 Criminal Record Check and Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance for all coaches.

We also ask parents to volunteer some of their time to help work in the concession stand during home games. There is a rotating schedule of volunteers so that no one individual is stuck in the snack shack all game long during every home game.

We also hold several events throughout the season where we ask for parent volunteers as chaperones…Bulldogs Night at the State College Spikes’ Baseball game, State College High School Homecoming Parade…etc.

There is always a way for parents to get involved with our organization for the benefit of the kids!
