Squad Assignment

Football players are assigned to squads based on their age. We have four different divisions. The flag level starts out with the 5 & 6 year old children, Bantam level is for 7 & 8 year olds, Junior level is for 9 & 10 year olds, and our Senior division is for children ages 11, 12 & 13.

Age and Weight Ranges

Ages are based on a league age for the year, determined by the participant’s age as of  July 31st. Weight does not include equipment.

Division Age Maximum Ball Carrying Weight
Flag 5 – 6 N/A
Bantam 7 – 8 75 lbs.
Junior 9 – 10 100 lbs.
Senior 11, 12 & 13 125 lbs.

Practices

Our practices start in the beginning of August, and continue through the month of October. The flag football team practices twice a week. The tackle football squads (Bantam, Junior and Senior levels) are committed to practicing 4 evenings a week (Monday – Thursday) thru August until school starts, and then we drop the Monday practices. All football practices are held at Tudek Park in State College, except for Mondays in August which are held at our home field at Autumn Meadow Park in Port Matilda.

Program Overview

The football teams have 8 games per season during the months of September and October. We do not schedule games on the same day as a PSU home football game. Because of that policy, a lot of our football games are held on Sundays. Our home football field is at Autumn Meadow Park in Stormstown (Halfmoon Township/Port Matilda area).

Uniforms

All football players will be fitted with helmets, shoulder pads, football pants with pads, socks. Most uniform items are collected at the end of the season. Parents are asked to purchase a personalized football jersey and a pair of cleats for their child.

Coaching/Volunteer Opportunities

We always welcome parents to volunteer as coaches, assistant coaches, and Team Mom’s. We do require an Act 34 Criminal Record Check and Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance for all coaches.

We also ask parents to volunteer some of their time to help work in the concession stand during home games. There is a rotating schedule of volunteers so that no one individual is stuck in the snack shack all game long during every home game.

We also hold several events throughout the season where we ask for parent volunteers as chaperones…Bulldogs Night at the State College Spikes’ Baseball game, State College High School Homecoming Parade…etc.

There is always a way for parents to get involved with our organization for the benefit of the kids!
